Visiting the Royers

June 18, 2014
The kids and I drove back to Utah the week after our week long trip to southern Utah to visit Daleen and Brian Royer and their cute kiddos. They were visiting from Texas and I just had to go see them! The kids had fun playing together and while we were there for the day we went to lunch and celebrated Brian's birthday. It was so fun to see them!

Rexburg air show

June 14, 2014
We went to the Rexburg air show with some friends and it was amazing! We saw planes doing flips, spins and one even landed on the top of a pick up truck! It was so fun! After the air show they had free kids fishing day at the nature park so Dave and Emmitt tried their luck, but didn't catch anything. Emmitt thought fishing was pretty great though!

Enterprise trip

June 1, 2014 The kids and I picked up Alison and Elizabeth in Chubbuck on Sunday afternoon and drove to West Valley to spend the night with Alison's in-laws. It turned into a super late night since it took us 5 1/2 hours to get there! The kids didn't go to bed until 11. We drove the rest of the way to Enterprise to visit Heather, Blake, Nathan and Hannah Holt on Monday morning and the kids did better! We had so much fun together. We were able to all fit in one van which was so great! We played at a children's museum and splash pad in St. George on Tuesday and visited and toured the Holt farm with Uncle Blake on Wednesday where Emmitt learned how to drive 3 tractors and milk a cow! He wouldn't actually touch the udder, but Blake showed us how to do it! Thursday we went to some sand dunes to play. We ended up sitting in a more rocky area since it was shaded and the rest of the sand was already blazing hot and it was 10 in the morning! We went back to St. George for lunch at McDonald's and Heather, Alison and I got treats for ourselves while the kids all slept in the car. On Friday we hung around Enterprise. We went out to Blake's dads house where they've just made a splash pad. We played in the water and had a picnic lunch. We also got snow cones and the kids rode their bikes around Heather's house. It was such a great trip! We left Saturday morning and drove all the way home. It took us 10 hours which was an hour or more shorter than on the way down and the kids did really well! Here are some pics:

Emmitt hard at work mucking out a stall! He told us he wanted to be a farmer!

Emmitt was SO excited to go for a tractor ride!
And even more excited when Uncle Blake let him steer!

By the end of riding in/driving 3 different       tractors, he was exhausted and fell asleep on aunt Heather's lap!

Bike time

May 30, 2014
We bought Emmitt his first big boy bike!  He rode his bike all over Walmart after we picked it out!  He loves it and his cars helmet. He's such a big boy!

Bailey had to have something new too, so we got her a princess helmet! She's such a big shot and loves doing everything brother is doing!

First camp out of the summer

May 23, 2014
We went up in the afternoon on Friday with the Workman's and found a camp spot at a campground in island park. We set up camp and then the Harlan's came up for the afternoon and evening. We took the four wheelers up to Big Springs and took turns going for rides. The kids loved it! We also looked at the fish and where the spring starts. Then we went back to camp and roasted hotdogs and marshmallows for s'mores and had a fun evening. Both kids slept through the night, which doesn't always happen at home! Here are some pics from the adventure!
Bailey loves getting dirty and really just loves everything about camping!
Emmitt, Dave and Riley Harlan going for a ride.
Addy Workman, Emma Harlan and Emmitt Batt looking over the edge trying to spot some rainbow trout! This made me so nervous even though the water was pretty shallow here!

Webster's Dam

May 17, 2014 At 9:30am we headed to Webster's Dam with Mitch, Mel, Addy, and Brayden Workman and Jason, Dee Dee, Addy, Sydney, and Jackson Paul! It was quite the adventure! We pulled 2 four wheelers on Dave's dads trailer (one belonged to Mitch's brother). We had to do lots of walking with the kids since we had too many people to ride on the four wheelers and some of the paths were too steep for more than one rider, but it was worth it when we got the the bottom and had a picnic lunch in such a beautiful place! We had a great time with our friends and we all survived the hike even though we were a little or a lot sore! That evening we had a BBQ and then left Emmitt and Bailey with babysitters so we could go to Mitch and Mel's to play games! It was super fun!

A big day!

Friday May 16 marks a big day in our lives! It's the day we bought our first truck! Dave and I and the kids are so excited to have something we can pull four wheelers and boats with. We also excited for Dave to have a vehicle that will actually get him to work without dying! It is a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab. It's perfect because it fits 6! We love it! Emmitt wants everyone we see to look at his new truck!

My uncle Joey teaches me everything

Mommy: Emmitt, who taught you to stand on the swing like that?
Emmitt: umm, Joey?

Loving the backyard and mom's new phone!

I'm so excited to have a nicer, faster phone where I can actually take pictures to use in posts! Here are the kiddos enjoying being outside on a cool May evening!

Winter in July?

So Emmitt decided on July 15 that he just had to wear his winter coat, gloves and hat! I was sweating just looking at him, but as you can see he had a great time!

Lunch time snoozing

Thus is one of my favorite things Emmitt does! After eating lunch he just lays down and falls asleep! This is a first though. Usually he lays his head on the table. Today it was the chair! Oh my sweet boy!

Emmitt's cute little language

Emmitt says the cutest things! Lately he's been saying- what happen? Its usually when somebody says ouch. He also says "super why to the rescue". He calls all super heroes super why. He used to say super hero and then he watched an episode of Super Why and that's what he's been saying ever since. Oh and he only wants to wear super why (hero) shirts, basketball pants and Batman socks that don't match! Where did he come from? Another language thing he does is saying an s sound for an f. So fish is shish, friends is svends- or something like that! There are tons of other things he's saying, but that's what is coming to mind at the moment!

We have a stander!

This morning when I went to get Bailey she was standing in her crib! Then later in the morning she pulled herself up to the little piano and even moved around the side to hold on to the toy kitchen. She's only 8 1/2 months! I totally can't remember when Emmitt started to stand, but I'm pretty proud of her! I think she's trying to keep up with her big brother!

Adventures to Idaho falls

Tiffani and i decided to pack all three kids into her Yukon and drive to Idaho falls to get our blood drawn this afternoon. We found out about a study being done at rocky mountain diabetes with another group that's checking for auto antibodies that are found in people with type one diabetes. The study is including anyone with a sibling, parent, child, cousin, aunt, uncle or grandparent with type one.  So i guess I'll find out in 4-6 weeks if i have the antibodies. Not a super fun reason to drive to Idaho falls, but its always fun to be with our friends! Emmitt and Jalee were playing with my little ponies. Jalee always brings Emmitt a specific pony each time they play together and he loves it! Bailey fell asleep on the way down and emmitt fell asleep in the car once we got down there and Jalee finally fell asleep for the ride home! Gotta love sleeping kids in the car!

Sleep glorious sleep!

Naptime and nighttime for this little gal have been rough the last little while. She only wants to sleep while being held. When we put her into her bed she wakes up and cries and cries. Today I let her cry in her bed for 30 minutes and she didn't calm down at all! So I got her out of bed and within a few minutes she was asleep. My mom suggested I lay her on the couch and then just stay by her so she didn't fall off. Not only did she let me lay her down, but she slept for 2 hours! It was the best nap she's taken in a long time!

Silly friends

On our walk yesterday we stopped by our friends the Mecham's. Emmitt LOVES their kids! He's always asking for Jase and Emma (who are 7 & 9). He also loves Hanna who is 4 & Olivia who is 1. They are all so good with him and he loves playing with them. Yesterday they decided it would be fun to sit in the back of their van. Oh and the drink? It had soda in it at first and was sitting on the front step and Emmitt had just helped himself, so Lindsey filled it with mio water instead and he was happy as a clam!

I decided to do a little recap of last summer and fall since they were epic! On August 4th, 2012 (the day after Dave graduated from PA school) our sweet little Emmitt (just 20 months old) was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  Since Dave and my sister, Suzi, also have Diabetes, I could see the signs.  He was drinking tons and going through tons of diapers.  The real concern was when he wet through his diaper every night for a week and some nap times too.  I was changing sheets constantly!  He also had become pretty grumpy and just wasn't acting like his normal, happy self.  So on August 3rd we decided that the next morning we would check his blood sugar, before he ate, with Dave's meter.  It ended up being 473 and we both started crying.  When we calmed down we called the pediatrician's office and were told to take him to the emergency room.  We spent most of the day there and then were moved to a room in the ICU.  They wanted him to be somewhere that would have people closer to watch him.  It was a pretty horrendous weekend...yep we were there from Saturday morning to Monday about noon. By Sunday Emmitt was going stir crazy and we were able to unplug him from all the monitors for short periods of time and let him run around the halls.  We found out later that if we would have just contacted the Diabetes doctors in Idaho Falls they probably wouldn't have admitted him to the hospital and we could have saved him and ourselves from such a horrible experience, but oh well.  He started out with insulin pens, humalog and Lantus, but is now on an insulin pump called the Omni Pod.  We started trying them in November or December and then got him on his own at the beginning of 2013!
Bailey Jo was born on her due date...September 24 at 10:59pm.  She weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and was 19 1/4 in long.  I was dialated to a 5 that morning at my doctor appointment and Dr. Meredith was on call that night, so when he asked if I wanted him to break my water I said Yes!  I got an epidural at 5 and he came in to break my water around 6pm.  I started pushing at 9:30 and Miss Bailey didn't want to come.  She was transverse, which means her head was turned the wrong way, and each time Dr. Meredith would turn it the right way, she'd just turn it wrong again.  He ended up using the suction. Then while coming out she aspirated on meconium and spent her whole first week in the NICU.  Needless to say the staff at Madison Memorial Hospital knows us well.
